2003 IBC & the ES-1 Roof Edge Standard
International Building Code Adoptions

The 2003 International Building Code includes the ANSI/SPRI ES-1 Roof Edge Standard in
Section 1504.5 "Edge Securement for Low Slope Roofs"

Some version of the International Building Code (IBC) has now been adopted by 47 states,
Washington DC, the Dept. of Defense, General Services Administration, the National Park Service,
the U.S. Forest Service and the Veterans Administration. More and more states are updating to the
2003 IBC version.

The
2003 IBC requires that roof edges be tested in accordance with the ES-1 Roof Edge
Standard.
